Trollwood Performing Arts School, Moorhead, MN

Friday, September 10:
• 6pm - Registration and setup for "Cover the Walls" Student, faculty, staff, and theatre professionals- SHOW US YOUR DESIGN WORK! Open invitation for designers to exhibit their work and share with fellow artist their ideas and approaches to design.

• 7pm - BAR-B-Q Dinner - Burgers, hot-dogs and regular picnic fixings at Trollwood

• 8pm - Northern Boundary Membership Meeting.

• 9:30pm - Bowling or Thunder Road Amusement Park

Saturday, September 11:
• 8am - Registration with donuts & coffee/ tea

• 9am - 10:15am –All –Conference presentation: Alternative Careers with Theatre Degrees Panelists: Michael Burgoyne, Schuler Shook Theatre Consultants, Lisa Conley, Minnesota Children’s Museum, Sam Michael, Thern Stage Equipment, Todd M. Reemtsma, JTH Lighting Alliance (moderator), Chris Tilton, KJWW Engineering Consultants.
You have followed your passion and decided to get a degree in theatre. The obvious choices for a career path are to enter the academic world and share your passion with students or to enter the world of professional theatre. But perhaps there are some other options to use that hard earned knowledge and experience in a career that may not seem so obvious. Please join this panel to hear how they have used their theatre degrees to find careers that satisfy their creative needs. This is intended to be an interactive discussion so please be sure to come with many questions and comments.

• 10:30am - Part I: Fosshape and Thermoplastics "Costume Crafts Trunk Show" This will be a show and tell of various items from Trollwood, MSUM, and NDSU and will serve as an inspiration for the afternoon hands on session. Presenter: Cindy Keding, NDSU.

Sound : A tour of the physical and electrical infrastructure used at the Imagine Theatre. A basic overview of the acoustic aspects of the amphitheater, and a walk through of how our sound system operates. We'll then go over the particular equipment we use, and how it is set up for a variety of applications. In addition to audio system and electrical topics, we'll be discussing basic rigging and safety practices for installing our system. Presenter: Joel Farren, TPAS Head mixer.

• 11:30am Lunch and Tours at Trollwood   - Box lunches provided on site. - Student lunch with Student workers from TPAS sharing their experience. Clara Cavins-Wolford, (First Hand and Wardrobe Lead), Tyler Lambert-Perkins, (Electrics), Brandon Thompson, (Head Mixer).
- Cover the Walls” Continue viewing and voting on student work.

• 1:30 – 3:30 Fosshape and Thermoplastics "From head to toe", using Fosshape & a variety of thermoplastics to create spectacular hats, wings, shoes & anything else you might be able to think of is great fun. These easy to work with materials can be sewn, wired or fused before being heated to create hardened, durable costume pieces that can be painted, jeweled or fabric covered. In this hands-on workshop you will create a mask that you take with you. Supplies are provided. (Workshop limit 20) Presenter: Cindy Keding. (The second half of this hands on workshop)

Rigging in Theatre and Entertainment: Industry Trends and Understanding Liability
This presentation will discuss recent innovations in counterweight rigging systems as well as packaged hoist systems and supplemental systems. The presentation will also discuss risk management and the importance of knowing current codes and standards and how several industry certifications are working towards creating safer situations. Learn more about the importance of having up to date operating plans and hazard communication as well as the need for regular preventive maintenance and inspection of your rigging system.

Scenic Painting Techniques This hands on workshop will be an introduction to scene painting. This will be an opportunity to become familiar with tools and terminology while moving through some drawing and painting exercises. Develop your techniques: wet blending, texture roller and more! Class size is limited.

Make up design for HD film   This workshop explores make-up techniques for stage and film. I will be demonstrating and sharing with you many make-up techniques needed by performers to achieve effective make-up for stage and film including HD techniques. Presenter: Ricky Greenwell, MSUM
